Each year, during the third week of May, we pause to recognize a critical yet often behind-the-scenes industry that fuels the growth and resilience of small and mid-sized businesses across the country, Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs). National PEO Week 2025 is our time to spotlight the remarkable impact of the more than 500 PEOs across the U.S.
What Is National PEO Week?
National PEO Week honors the vital role that PEOs play in supporting more than 200,000 small and mid-sized businesses that employ over 4.5 million people. These businesses are the backbone of our economy, and PEOs help them thrive by handling time-consuming, complex tasks such as:
- Payroll and tax administration
- Employee benefits and administration
- HR support and employe law compliance support
- Risk management and workplace safety
- Integrated HR technology and vendor consolidation
Why PEOs Matter
In today’s rapidly evolving workplace, business owners wear many hats, and PEOs help lighten the load. Businesses that partner with a PEO experience:
- 2x faster growth
- 12% lower employee turnover
- 50% higher likelihood of survival
By offloading administrative burdens, businesses can focus on their core mission and invest their time where it matters most—serving customers, leading teams, and growing revenue.
Bringing Big Business Benefits to Smaller Teams
PEOs give companies access to benefits like:
- 401(k) plans
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Life insurance
- Short- and long-term disability
- Employee assistance programs
These benefits are often out of reach for small businesses due to cost, but with a PEO, they become accessible and affordable. 17% of all employers with 10 to 100 employees currently work with a PEO.
National Recognition and Momentum
Since the inaugural National PEO Week in 2023, awareness of the industry’s impact has grown:
- Officially recognized in the U.S. Congressional Record, thanks to Rep. Erin Houchin (R-IN), a former PEO employee
- Designated as an “official week” by the National Day organization—a rare distinction granted to just 30 out of 25,000 requests annually
- 12 states issued formal proclamations recognizing PEO Week in 2024, including Georgia, Texas, Arizona, and Massachusetts
Who We’re Celebrating With
This week, PEOs across the country are engaging with:
- Policymakers, to raise awareness of our economic contributions
- Small and mid-size businesses, to showcase how we help them thrive
- Current clients, to thank them for their trust and partnership
- The general public, to build understanding of what a PEO is and why it matters
